They calmed down for five seconds and I got a picture of them!

Hello, Nitro

Big developments in the Schubert household this week. (hi, again, by the way. I haven't blogged for a while.)

We adopted a seven month old boxer/black lab mix puppy this week. His name is Nitro (that's what his owners named him, and it fits), he's a big ball of energy, friendly, playful, and adorable. A family here in Bellevue put him up for adoption; they have two small kids and one of the parents is stationed overseas. They couldn't take care of him any longer. So we adopted him, and what we thought happened would: we met him and immediately fell for him. So now he's adjusting to his new surroundings here, learning to like his brother Clyde, and being his playful self. He hardly barks, he licks us half to death, and he's a funny dog. As weird as it might sound...I feel a little bit of normalcy has been restored. We've had one dog since Rosie died and things felt out of order. Now with two dogs again they're starting to feel normal.

Hopefully, the weather will warm up a little where we can take Clyde and Nitro for a walk over the weekend. I should probably get past my cold too before I go outside in the weather.

I'll post some pictures tomorrow of Nitro; I'm trying to get one of him and Clyde together.

maybe...finally...past it

I think maybe, finally, I'm getting past being sick. I'm not going to feel well, completely, until this spring, when the weather warms up (then the stupid allergies will kick in). But I got a lot of sleep this weekend: came home Friday night, went to bed at 7, and didn't wake up until 5:45 Saturday morning. I took a nap yesterday and one today, and feel better. The sinuses are still bothering me, but there's stuff I can take for that.

Now...to keep myself healthy. I mostly have the eating better thing down; since I've started eating a mostly vegetarian diet I don't think I've ever eaten healthier. I've felt pretty good since starting that, too, which tells me I should stick with it. But I think I need to cut back on some things. Less sugar (yes, that was my sad face you just saw), less caffeine, and more of what I'm eating now. It helps that I'm not a picky eater. We cook a lot, and that's something I like...I know what's in it that way. Like tonight...I made a loaf of bread in the breadmaker. The whole house smells like fresh bread now. I know what's in it: a handful of ingredients, mixed together in the breadmaker for four and a half hours, and baked. Maybe that's what I need to do more of: make food with just a few ingredients that I know is good for me. Gotta take the vitamins too, and get some exercise. I did 20 minutes on the elliptical yesterday morning for the first time in a while. It felt good.

Not a whole lot happening here. Scott's truck is being fixed. We have no idea how long that's going to take or anything. I just hope when it comes back it's in as good of condition as it was before the wreck. Clyde is his typical spoiled, happy self. We went for a car ride yesterday. He's taken to snuggling with me at night; for a small dog (he's a Jack Russell terrier mix) he takes up a lot of room. But I don't mind.

It's time to rest and relax for the remainder of the evening. Work is done, laundry is done, dishes are (mostly) done, shopping is done, bread is baked, and football is watched. I'm exhausted.

Quiet Saturday

At least that's what I'm hoping for, anyway. It's supposed to be in the 30s most of the day, with snow/sleet/freezing rain later on. Not a whole lot happening here. We're still waiting to hear the status of Scott's truck, if it's going to be fixed or totaled. We'll be doing the one car thing for a little while but that's not a big deal. I'm going today to get a facial (ahh, nice and relaxing) and do a little shopping. I think we're going to look at dogs this weekend too. There are some really cute ones for adoption in both Omaha and Council Bluffs.

Not a good start

The day has ended better, but 2009 didn't start well. Scott is fine but his new truck is probably totaled. He was on his way to work last night when someone ran a red light. Scott hit the guy and ended up hitting a retaining wall. Needless to say the other guy got a ticket. So that's how the New Year started for us. I've felt ill off and on today, so hopefully the second day of 2009 will be better than the first.

The good news is that Dad and Beth made it to town. I'm glad they're here and so far things are quiet.

Those are all the exciting happenings from here. Happy New Year.
